Black Box : When Horror Boards a Plane

Imagine : while their flight proceeds normally, without the slightest turbulence, the passengers of a plane are suddenly struck by a strange high-pitched noise. Moments later, they all begin to bleed from the ears, then from the eyes. This is precisely the starting point of Black Box : Flight 298, a new horror and science-fiction film that is likely to delight fans of airborne claustrophobic thrillers.

An ordinary flight that turns into a nightmare

Directed by Steven Quale, known notably for Final Destination 5, and written by Stephen Susco, screenwriter of The Grudge and The Curse of La Llorona, Black Box : Flight 298 takes place almost entirely aboard a plane connecting New Orleans to Seattle.

The film follows several passengers who gradually realize that something abnormal is happening during the flight. After the appearance of strange luminous phenomena in the sky, a high-pitched sound begins to ring through the cabin, causing particularly unsettling symptoms in some travelers.

A threat that seems to come from elsewhere

As the journey progresses, passengers discover that they may not be alone on board. According to the first information revealed by the trailer and reviews already published, the film will blend horror, science fiction, and conspiracy theories around mysterious phenomena occurring in the upper atmosphere.

The passengers of Black Box : Flight 298 trapped in the cabin
Tension rises in the cabin as passengers try to understand what is happening aboard Flight 298.

Among the survivors are notably Jeremy, played by Tom Brittney, a flight attendant, an air marshal, and a young passenger, who must try to understand what is happening before it is too late.

A director who knows airborne horror well

The choice of Steven Quale as director is no coincidence. The filmmaker is notably known for directing Final Destination 5, considered by many fans to be one of the best films in the franchise. His experience with disaster scenes and tense claustrophobic settings could therefore perfectly match the atmosphere sought by Black Box : Flight 298.

When will Black Box be released?

Black Box : Flight 298 will be available on video on demand starting July 6, 2026 in several territories. Even though early reviews describe an occasionally uneven film, many already praise its paranoid atmosphere and particularly effective concept.

One thing is certain : if you are afraid of flying, this film may only make your case worse.
