Since the release of the Backrooms film, many viewers wonder whether Captain Clark, the central entity of the feature, might actually be the famous bacteria seen in Kane Parsons' web series. While this theory may seem credible at first glance, notably due to the disturbing similarities between these two creatures, the official chronology of the Backrooms universe tells a very different story.
Understanding the Backrooms timeline
To answer this question, it is first necessary to place each event in its chronology.
The story of the Backrooms film takes place in 1990. However, the first known evidence of a creature's existence in the Backrooms appears as early as March 6, 1990, in the Motion Detected video. A few weeks later, on May 6, 1990, the first direct encounter with the bacteria occurs during the events recounted in Pitfalls.
The Found Footage episodes, meanwhile, take place much later. The bacteria notably appears in Found Footage #1, set in 1991, then in Found Footage #2, which takes place in 1995.
An appealing theory... but a major problem
One of the most popular theories claims that the creature seen in the Found Footage episodes is actually the final form of Captain Clark. This hypothesis rests on several visual and narrative similarities between the two entities.
However, a fundamental detail calls this theory into question : the events of the Backrooms film take place between June 19 and June 29, 1990, as well as in the days that follow. At that time, the bacteria had already existed for several months before Clark even entered the Backrooms.
Following the official chronology strictly, Captain Clark therefore cannot be the origin of the bacteria.
But do the Backrooms really follow the rules of time?
This is precisely where the debate becomes more complex.
One of the most mysterious aspects of the Backrooms lies in their relationship with time. Throughout the web series and the film, several clues suggest that this space does not necessarily follow a linear chronology. Places seem to transform, rewrite themselves, and sometimes even exist simultaneously in different forms.
This peculiarity therefore leaves the door open to certain more speculative interpretations : could Captain Clark become the bacteria in the future? Has he already been it? Or are they simply two distinct entities sharing certain common characteristics?
At present, no official answer has been provided by Kane Parsons. One thing is certain, however : despite their disturbing similarities, the known chronology of the Backrooms indicates that Captain Clark and the bacteria cannot be the same entity... at least, not according to our current understanding of time.
