Among all the theories surrounding Backrooms, there is one particularly disturbing theory that attempts to explain why we never see still lifes of Bobby and Kat in the film.
As a reminder, still lifes are not the real people, but altered reproductions created by the Backrooms from the individuals they have studied. Several examples appear throughout the film, notably in the form of deformed human silhouettes or figures merged with their environment.
And if still lifes of Bobby and Kat never appear on screen, some fans believe this could be explained by a reason far more unsettling than a simple absence.
Bobby and Kat were indeed "scanned"
To understand this theory, we need to go back several events.
Bobby and Kat are Clark's two employees. In addition to helping him run his store, they also participate in filming his commercials. It is during this sequence that many fans believe the three characters are "scanned" by the Backrooms, which would explain why certain elements from that day reappear later in the Complex.
This hypothesis seems notably reinforced by the presence of Bobby and Kat's shoes in Captain Clark's throne room.
The mysterious pile of clothes
Later in the film, Clark asks his employees to follow him into the Backrooms to document their exploration. Bobby is then tasked with descending to the bottom of an immense pit, a place that seems to conceal several of the Complex's most unsettling secrets.
While observing the surroundings, Bobby notices a particularly troubling detail : at the very top of a pile of clothes sits a t-shirt that looks familiar to him. And for good reason : it is exactly the same t-shirt he wore during the filming of Clark's commercial.
This detail gave rise to a particularly unsettling theory.
A still life dump?
The film suggests on several occasions that it is possible to consume the body of a still life, but not their clothes. Some fans therefore suggest that this immense pit could actually serve as a dump, a place where still life clothing would be abandoned after their disappearance.
If this interpretation is correct, then the presence of Bobby's t-shirt, combined with the shoes found in the throne room, could indicate that a still life of Bobby - and potentially of Kat - did indeed exist.
The most disturbing theory
This is where the theory takes a much darker turn.
If we assume that Clark deliberately led Bobby and Kat into the Backrooms to trap them (see theory), as certain elements of the film seem to suggest, then it is possible that their still lifes were subsequently consumed.
This hypothesis rests notably on Clark's gradual descent into madness, as well as on the clues scattered throughout the film concerning the nature of still lifes.
Of course, no official confirmation exists on this subject. But if this theory were to prove accurate, then the fate of Bobby and Kat's still lifes could be far more terrifying than their simple disappearance.
